Placing an Order
The Rights & Reproductions Department can provide photographic reproductions of most works in the National Academy Museum’s permanent collection for study, use or publication. All requests for images and permissions must be submitted in writing to the Rights and Reproductions Department by letter, email or fax 1.212.360.6795.
For requests for use on the Internet, film, TV Broadcast, and commercial products, different terms and conditions apply. Please contact the Rights & Reproductions Department for details.
Contract and Payment
A written reply will be sent via mail, email or fax stating the total fee for your request. For more information on fees, please refer to the Fee Schedule. A contract and invoice will be mailed to you. By signing and returning the contract with payment, you agree to the terms set forth by the National Academy.
Prepayment is required. Checks must be made payable to the National Academy Museum, made out in US dollars, and must be drawn from a US bank. Once payment and the signed contract have been received, we will send the photographic material.
Available Images
Although photographic material is available for a great portion of the Academy collection, images for some works are not readily available. We will notify you in such an event, and new photography may be requested. New photography usually requires six to eight weeks to fulfill, and prepayment is required.
Processing Time
Photographic materials are usually sent within two to four weeks after receipt of payment and signed contract. Please let us know if paperwork and materials are needed sooner so that we may expedite the order, for which Rush Fees would apply.
Returning Photographic Materials
Photographic materials, with the exception of black and white photographs, are released for a six-month rental period. If an extension is needed, please let the Rights and Reproductions Department know and an extension will be considered and under most cases granted. If a transparency is lost or damaged, an invoice will be sent for the current replacement cost.
